Nelle C. Greene

WOODRUFF- Nelle Coker Greene, 96, of Greenfield, Indiana formerly of Woodruff, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Golden Living Center-Brandywine. 

  She was born on November 2, 1920 in Laurens County, S.C. as the daughter of W. Ralph and Della Burdette Coker.  She graduated from Fountain Inn High School in 1936 and later attended Brevard College.  Nelle married Herbert E. Greene on October 9, 1942 in San Francisco, CA.

  She worked for Olin Corporation for many years in Brevard, NC and Covington, IN. and retired as an executive administration secretary.  After retirement Nelle was an active volunteer for Hancock Regional Hospital and Spartanburg General Hospital in South Carolina.  Nelle was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority in Covington, IN, past vice president of Business Professional Women in Woodruff, SC and charter member of the Red Hat Society in Greenfield.  She was also a member of Bradley United Methodist Church.  Nelle loved to volunteer for many organizations and was an active volunteer in political campaigns in South Carolina.  She enjoyed traveling, water aerobics, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

  Nelle is survived by her daughter, Dianne Osborne of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Greg (Charissa) Osborne of Indianapolis, David (Angie) Osborne of Lake Wiley, S.C., Dr. Thomas (Jessica) Osborne of Honolulu, HI and Elizabeth (Richard) Kurkowski of Libertyville, IL; six great-grandchildren, Nate, Eli, Davyn, Adley, Courtney and Vanessa; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert Greene; two brothers, W.P. Coker and Ralph Coker; sister, Edna Coker Taylor; and son-in-law, D. Chris Osborne.

  Visitation will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.  A Celebration of Life Service will take place immediately following the visitation.  Reverend Linda Brackney from Bradley United Methosist Church will be officiating.  A cryptside service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 12795 Hwy. 221, Woodruff, S.C. by Rev. Andy Watson.

  The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the staff at Brandywine Golden Living Center and Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice.
