Kaye S. Simmons

ENOREE- Kaye Sumner Simmons, 69, of 494 Ball Park Road after a courageous battle with cancer, overcame through death and entered heaven Saturday, June 3, 2017 at her home.

  A native of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of Hazel Lancaster Sumner of Enoree and the late Russell Ray Sumner.  She retired from Spartanburg County School District Four after 30 years of exemplary service. She both attended and started her teaching career at Enoree School. She was a 1966 graduate of Woodruff High School, 1970 graduate of Winthrop University, and received her master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of South Carolina. After retirement, she continued to teach at both Converse College and Spartanburg Community College. Throughout her life, she served faithfully in the choir, as well as in kids and student ministry, at both Enoree First Baptist and subsequently at Woodruff Church of God.

  Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 49 years Terry Dean Simmons of the home; two dedicated daughters, Kerri (Anthony) McAlister of Moore and Kristen (Brian) Hunter of West Palm Beach, Florida; 4 grandchildren who lit up her world, Molly McAlister, AJ McAlister, Chloe Hunter and Brock Hunter. She is also survived by two close nieces Jill Simmons and Tracy Sanders.

  A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at the Woodruff Church of God by Rev. Curtis Terry and Mr. Derek Jones. Interment will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens with a committal by Rev. Curtis Terry and Rev. Buster Ball.

  Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Woodruff Church of God. 172 Poole Street, Woodruff, SC.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodruff Church of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 275, Woodruff, SC 29388.
