Belton J. Rhodes
WOODRUFF- Belton James Rhodes passed away surrounded by his family at Regional Hospice House on Monday, July 25. Born April 6, 1935 in Woodruff, he was the youngest child of Adger and Sara Knight Rhodes. He was married 67 years to Joyce Littlefield Rhodes, his high school sweetheart.
He was devoted to his faith and his family. He was a lifetime member of Cornerstone Baptist Church (formerly Mills Mill) where he served in the past as Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School director and member of the Teller Committee. He helped oversee the building of the new church after retiring from 38 years at Kohler Company. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, and he was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and golf. He served in the National Guard and the US Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Beth Wheatley of Monkton, MD, and Nancy Morrow (Ted) of Enoree; son Jim Rhodes (Courtney) of Enoree; grandchildren Marie Williams (Shane), Megan Rhodes, David Wheatley (Kaley), Will Wheatley (Anna), Sarah Wheatley and Lindsay Halloran (Cody), David Johnson and Luke Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Landon and Greyson Williams, and Nathan Wheatley; sister, Lois Nelson of Laurens and sister-in-law Cheryl Turner of Jefferson. He was predeceased by son-in-law Tim Wheatley and daughter-in-law Rhonda Rhodes and siblings Genell Wood, William “Buddy” Turner, Jack Rhodes, Luther Rhodes, Lucenie Scott and Estelle Norwood.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 30, at 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, led by Rev. Doug Huntsinger. Interment will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
