Carolyn Loftis Obituary

Carolyn D. Loftis

WOODRUFF- Carolyn Jean Douglas Loftis, 85, of 109 Gossett Road went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loved ones, Sunday, November 10, 2024.

She was born May 16, 1939, in Spartanburg County to the late Roy “Mule” and Myrtle Thomas Douglas and was the widow of Hubert Lee “Pete” Loftis

She had a long career in the textile industry throughout Spartanburg and Greenville Counties.  She was a workaholic who took positions that proved she “could run circles around menfolk.” After retiring, she enjoyed front porch sitting with her Miss Kitty and good Christian people.  Throughout her life she nurtured a deep love for nature and saw beauty in each tree.  In her later years, she drew together a loving circle of family and friends.  She was always ready to share what she had and doted generously on her great grandchildren.  she was truly a treasure, and a woman rich in experiences and wisdom that was shared with the biggest smile on her face.

Surviving is a stepdaughter, Marjorie “Madge” Ballard of Greenville; two sisters, Peggy Douglas Holiday of Laurens and Hazel Douglas Mason of Cross Anchor; 7 grandchildren, Shannon Pierce, Kevin Pierce (Brooke), Nathan Loftis (Crystal), Jeana Wallace (Charlie), Stephanie Loftis Theo (Brent), Justin Davis (Marlayna), Bobby Bridges and many great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by two daughters, Carolyn Jane Loftis Pierce Wood and Donna Kay Loftis, one son, Steven LeRoy Loftis; three brothers, Grady Douglas, Roger Douglas and Johnny Douglas.  She was also predeceased by her companion, John Tucker.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Lanford-Gwinn Mortuary Chapel by Rev. Carrol Caldwell.  A private interment will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. prior to the service.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for her in the last years.

The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Jeana Wallace.
