Charles B. Hunter
WOODRUFF- Charles Belton Hunter,79, of 411 McElrath Road went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 12, 2026, at his home.
He was born May 30, 1946, in Spartanburg County to the late Riley Hunter and Sally Waddell Hunter. He was a retired engineer with General Electric. He was a volunteer fireman with the Woodruff Fire Department for 27 years and was the last part-time fire chief of the fire department. He received a Citizen Heroism Award in recognition of bravery that saved the life of a fellow citizen March 17, 2008. He was a member and past master of Crescent Masonic Lodge #245 FM. He was a member of Mills Mill Baptist Church/Cornerstone Baptist Church where he was former Chairman of the Deacons. Charles received the Future Farmer Regional Award in Kansas City, Missouri thru the FFA. He loved his daily golf cart rides on the farm and working on his farm and checking on everything and everyone to keep them all in line.
Surviving is his wife, Jean Taylor Hunter of the home; two daughters, Jeanine Harrison (David) of Woodruff and Angie Martinez (Ramon) of Woodruff; 5 grandchildren, Kelsey, Riley, Kinsley, Jennie and Taylor; 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters, Barbara Hunter, Polly McCall and Dot Lancaster; two brothers, Johnny Hunter and Wilson Hunter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Lanford-Gwinn Mortuary Chapel officiated by Rev. Fred Quidley and Dr. Tommy Huddleston. A private family interment will follow on the family farm, 411 McElrath Road, Woodruff.
Visitation will immediately follow the service.
Serving as pallbearers, Taylor Martinez, Riley Harrison, Josh Higgins, Clayton Baker and Nicholas Frank.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
