Curtis Walker
WOODRUFF- Grover Curtis Walker,84, of 711 Kelly Road went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Regional Hospice Home.
He was born September 13, 1940, in Greenville County to the late Shields and Rhoda Jones Walker. Curtis retired as the administrator of B.J. Workman Memorial Hospital formerly in Woodruff, S.C. with over 20 years of service. He was also administrator of Restorative Care Hospital for Spartanburg Regional Hospital System and began his career as a Registered Nurse specializing in mental health. During this time, he also was a counselor for the Spartanburg Drug and Alcohol Commission. Curtis served as Water Commissioner for Woodruff Roebuck Water District from 1998 until his passing. Curtis served as a Medic in the United States Army and graduated from the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg Regional Campus with a nursing degree. Curtis continued and earned his Master of Education in Personnel Services from Clemson University. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodruff for nearly 40 years where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member and had served as President of the Rotary Club of Woodruff.
A beloved father, grandfather, and husband, Curtis loved his family and his community. He was a lifelong caregiver, avid golfer, teacher, and friend. He loved to learn, read, spend time with his dog “Cookie”, and to travel with one of his favorite places close to home, Edisto Beach.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy Harrison Skinner Walker of the home; two daughters, Tanya Jacobi (Shane) of Woodruff and Tara Walker (Fulton) of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Jonathan Walker (Susan) of Greenville; stepdaughter, Alisha Skinner Kocurek (Marty) of Raleigh, North Carolina; stepson, Scott Skinner of Greenville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kamryn Walker, Madison Jacobi (Drew), and Michael Jacobi; step-grandchildren, Chad Kocurek, Jackson Brewer, Hannah Brewer and Lucy Brewer; step-great-grandchildren, Gaddyn and Cliff Kocurek. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sheila Counts Walker and a sister, Joyce Walker Bates.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Woodruff officiated by Rev. Andrew Shull and Rev. Neil Cochran. Entombment will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, S.C.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
Serving as pallbearers, Ted Harrison Sr., Rex Skinner, Bengy Rhodes, Kermit Johnson, Dr. Mukesh Gandhi and Ken Vaughn.
