Dave (David) Brooks Hughey Jr. “Bubba”
Dave (David) Brooks Hughey Jr. “Bubba”, 71, of Spartanburg passed away peacefully at the Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
David was known for his love of music. He could be found picking the strings of some guitar or blowing away on a harmonica. You can find a few YouTube Videos of him doing what he loved. He had a joke for every occasion but usually a dirty joke could be heard, but he never enjoyed being the butt of it. Dave never met a stranger, he would talk the ears off a billy goat while his kids sat waiting to leave a store.
He was born April 8, 1954, in Spartanburg County to the late Dave Brooks Hughey Sr. and Lula Mae West Hughey. He served the City of Spartanburg with dedication and pride, working as a supervisor for many years in the road division. He also spent time behind the wheel as a truck driver-something he took pride in, enjoying the road and the people he met along the way. He knew every back road in Spartanburg County and Greenville County.
Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the music he played, and the lives he touched with his humor and heart.
He was the father of five children, Levi Hughey of Greenville, Nikki Hughey of Greenville, Angela Teague (Tyler) of Boiling Springs, Justin Hughey (Traci) of Union and Cody Hughey (Courtney) of Lyman. He is also survived by his loving and supportive sister, Marilyn McAbee of Spartanburg. He had a football team of grandchildren, Kaden, Logan, Delfina, NatalieMae, LeRoy, Loretta, Shane, Allie, Breonna, Harlee, Emily, Austin, Nathan, Chloe, Jamie, Evelyn, and a Heavenly grandchild, Charlie. Dave was predeceased by the love of his life, Lonna Sue.
