David A. Gillespie Sr.
David Allen Gillespie, 81, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Regional Hospice Home.
David was born June 2, 1939 in Woodruff to the late Jack and Dot Payne Gillespie. He was retired from the textile industry and was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School in numerous churches and had formerly served on the Spartanburg County School Board District 6. David was a 1957 graduate of Woodruff High School and a 1961 graduate of Wofford College. David was loved and respected by all of those who knew him., but especially by his family. He was the perfect example of a husband who adored his wife, a father who loved his children, and a grandfather who spoiled his grandchildren. As far as David was concerned, there was nothing that came before his family. He will be greatly missed and always remembered as an amazing Husband, Father, and Poppy.
Surviving are his loving wife and the love of his life for 58 years, Connie Harrison Gillespie of the home; one daughter, Donna Ann Gillespie of Spartanburg; one son, David Allen Gillespie Jr. of Spartanburg; 3 grandchildren, Allen Gillespie, Skylar Cooley (Justin) and Sloane Knepp (Zach); 6 great grandchildren, Austyn Cooley, Maelynn Cooley, Marshall Cooley, Hudson Cooley, Harper Knepp and Hampton Knepp. He was predeceased by a grandson, Sean Michael Mears.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N. Lanford Road, Spartanburg by Rev. Andrew Wolfe and Rev. Martha Timmons. Interment will follow at Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 680 Nazareth Church Road, Spartanburg.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N. Lanford Road, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.
Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic it is requested that masks be worn and social distancing be practiced during the visitation and funeral service.
The family is at their respective homes.
