Dr. J. Elwyn James

  SPARTANBURG- Dr. James Elwyn James, 73, of 200 Indian Wells Drive passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

  He was born January 23, 1948 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Aubrey Clyde and Ruby Savelle James.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Spartanburg.  Dr. James was the owner of The James Clinic in Woodruff where he practiced family medicine for 43 years and had practiced general surgery.  He was a1974 honor graduate of the University of Mississippi/Ole Miss Medical School where he also played football.  Dr. James had been a former partner with the late Dr. B.J. Workman at the Workman-James Clinic and with the late Dr. Michael Willmot at the James-Willmot Clinic.

  Surviving are his wife, Debbie Duvall James of the home; two daughters, Kellie James of Spartanburg and Lauren James of Inman; one son, Robert James of Beaufort; one grandson, Landon James.  He was predeceased by a sister, Linda James.

  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Lanford-Gwinn Mortuary Chapel by Dr. Bennie Littlejohn.

  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. prior to the service.

  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Woodruff Area Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 352, Woodruff, S.C. 29388.

  The family is at their respective homes.
