Dr. J. Lynn Harrill
Dr. J. Lynn Harrill, 73, of 180 Shoal Court, Lexington, S.C. went home to be with the Lord, Monday, July 22, 2024, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital.
Dr. Harrill was born March 26, 1951, in Boiling Springs, N.C., to the late Walter and Gertrude Ramsey Harrill. He was a graduate of University of South Carolina, Columbia and started his career teaching English at Woodruff High School before becoming Assistant Superintendent of Spartanburg County School District 4. Dr. Harrill left his position at District 4 Schools and became a Professor in Furman University’s Education Department. After serving at Furman University, he accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent in Spartanburg School District 7. Dr. Harrill ended his teaching career as a professor in USC’s College of Education. He served as a member of SCASA South Carolina Association of School Administrators and ASCD The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Surviving is his wife, Jean LeRoy Harrill of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Hinton (Jason) of Lexington and Kristen Gillaspy (William) of Columbia; one sister, Peggy Cherry of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Kenneth Harrill of Columbia; 5 grandchildren, Riley, Graham, Olivia, Emma Kate and Alice.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Woodruff led by Rev. Andrew Shull. A private interment will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
