Fred Lester Richards

  SPARTANBURG- Fred Lester Richards, 69, of Spartanburg, SC, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Brookstone Terrace in Woodruff.

  He was born April 8, 1955, in Washington, DC to the late Fred John Richards and Rosa Lee Wessinger Richards.  He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and was retired from UPS.  Mr. Richards was also a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge.

  Surviving is his wife, Jan Poston Richards of the home; his son, Steven Richards (Caroline) of Spartanburg; his daughter, Katherine Vess (Eddie) of Rock Hill; his sister, Brenda Bishop (Stanley) of Roebuck; and 4 grandchildren, Smith Richards, Grace Richards, Ann Haywood Richards and George Vess.   He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Joy Sanders and Kay Nelson (Clay); nieces, Erin Kornahrens (Paul), Christy Mostafa (Adam), and Laura Edrissi (Camron); and nephews, Michael Sanders, Paul Nelson (Meredith), and Drew Bishop (Brittany). He was predeceased by a brother, Donald.

  A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 233 North Church Street, Spartanburg officiated by the Reverend Cam Treece.

  Visitation will immediately follow the service in the church social hall.

  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 233 North Church Street, Spartanburg, S.C. 29306.

  The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff members of Brookstone Terrace of Woodruff and Family Hospice for the exceptional care they both provided.
