Hugh A. Hughes
ENOREE- Hugh Arvin Hughes,89, of 2009 Highway 92 went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 15, 1935, in Cross Anchor to the late John L. Hughes and Ila Mae Laurence Hughes. He was a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church, Enoree where he served as a Deacon and served on the Cemetery Committee. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Cross Anchor High School Class of 1953 and Cecil’s Business College.
He worked for 45 years at Inman Mills, Enoree Division and retired as a supervisor. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict as a Corp. Spec 4 in the 159th Transportation Battalion. He received a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal for his service.
Mr. Hughes was a life member of Enoree Masonic Lodge #222 where he was Past Master and was a life member of the Hejaz Shriner’s. He was active and very involved in the Boy Scouts of America as an assistant Scout Master in Troop 21 at Emma Gray Methodist Church in Woodruff. He helped two of his grandsons achieve their Eagle Scout Awards and received the Palmetto Award for Scouts.
Surviving is his wife of 71 years, Betty Jo Knighton Hughes of the home; two daughters, Rhonda (Phil) Cox of Woodruff and Christie Simmons of Enoree; one son, Steve (Kim) Hughes of Roebuck; 8 grandchildren, Brooke (Justin) Holmes, Josh Cox, Shane (Mary Beth) Simmons, Jake Simmons, Alex Simmons (Lauren Woodruff), Madeline (Preston) Waddell, Emma (Mike) Jauch and Colt (Jordan) Hughes; 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald K. (Rowdy) Hughes and William R. (Bill) Hughes.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church, Enoree officiated by Rev. Gunne Davis and Rev. Fred Quidley. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites by Enoree Masonic Lodge #222 will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers, Josh Cox, Shane Simmons, Jake Simmons, Alex Simmons, Colt Hughes and Justin Holmes.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
The Hughes family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff with Interim Hospice for all their love, care and concern shown to them during Mr. Hugh’s illness.
