John Robinson Obituary

On Friday, May 27, 2022, at the age of 89, John Garner Robinson, formerly of Orangeburg, S.C., passed away peacefully at Brookstone Terrace of Woodruff, surrounded by his son and daughter.

John was born on November 8, 1932, in Charlotte, N.C. He graduated from Cordova High School in Cordova, SC in 1951, where he played basketball and baseball.

After working in several industries and owning his own business, he found his true vocational calling in the trucking industry having been a long-distance driver for Applied Engineering and later an assistant fleet manager at Heilig-Meyers.

He was known for his independent nature, fiercely strong will, and his ability to teach others.  He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses almost his entire life and spent decades serving in his local congregation and in ministry across SC.  He was an avid reader and studier of the Bible.  He also enjoyed reading about history and the wild west.  He loved being out in nature, camping, and listening to the rain.  He dearly loved animals and had horses, cats, and dogs throughout his life.

John was preceded in death by his parents William W & May R Robinson of Orangeburg, SC; his twin brother Frank and older brothers Perry, Raymond, Richard, and a sister Betty.  He is survived by his son, Michael Stephen Robinson of Moore, SC; his daughter, Heather R. Cockrell (Duane) of Birmingham, AL, his three grandchildren Alex, Danielle & Denise Cockrell, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 2:00 p.m. ET at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4334 Walnut Grove Rd, Roebuck, SC.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your local humane society or animal rescue organization or the American Heart Association.

Until we meet again.. our Daddy, Pop, Grandaddy, Uncle John & Brother Robinson will be greatly missed.
