John L. Turner

MOORE- John Larry Turner,90, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, March 27, 2026, at his home in the Switzer Community.

  He was born December 18, 1935 in Spartanburg County to the late Clyde Turner and Louise Reynolds Turner.  He was a devoted member of Selma Baptist Church for approximately 70 years and was a member of the choir until his health failed.  John was known for his summer garden, his annual “Pig Picking”, and his sharp memory.  He loved sports, watching Purple Martins arrive and seeing the activities of the grands and being involved with people.  He was a friend to many and loved by all.  He will be missed.

  John was employed with Kohler Company for 39 years and worked in the Grounds Department at Three Pines Country Club for 20 years.

  John was first married to the late Claudette Lawson Turner and was father to four sons, Larry, Rex (February 27, 2026), Phillip and Chris.  He is also survived by his wife, Frances Lanford Turner of the home (married 40 years), sons, Phillip (Robin) Turner of Moore and Chris Turner of Appleton, Wisconsin; sisters, Beth Blann of Kennedy, Alabama; daughter, Cindy White (Bobby), stepson, Phillip Ramsey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Justin Turner of Boiling Springs, Miranda Fugate (Clinton) of Inman, Taylor Sells (John) of Woodruff; Ashley Turner of Moore, Erica Thompson of Boiling Springs, Kevin White (Mary Beth) of Roebuck and Robin Johnston of Spartanburg; great-grandchildren, Connor Fugate, Aria Fugate, Ellie Sells, Lawson Sells, Jack Thompson, Anslee Thompson, Blair White, Devyn White, Henry White, Gunnar Johnston and Hollis Johnston. 

  John is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Jean Turner; brother-in-law, Mike Morgan; sister-in-law, Betty Turner.  The Lanford family, sister-in-law, Jo Ledford, Carolyn Setzer, Linda Lanford, Brenda Adams and Sandra Harris.

  Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Selma Baptist Church by Rev. Darren Smith and Rev. Fred Quidley.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

  Serving as pallbearers, Justin Turner, Kevin White (and Henry), Jack Thompson, Garrison Holupka, John Sells and Gunnar Johnston.

  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Selma Baptist Church.

  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Selma Baptist Church Building Fund,850 Lawson Road, Woodruff, S.C. 29388 or Agape Care Hospice, 706 East Main Street, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302

  The family is at the residence.
