Kenneth Sloan Obituary

Kenneth Earl Sloan, 77, passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 28th, 2024. He was born on August 4th, 1946, in Woodruff, SC to the late Earl and Mina Sloan.

He was retired from Colleton County Recreation. He served in the US Army in 1967 and 1968 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a crew chief on the helicopters during the Vietnam War. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Creech Sloan of Barnwell, SC; children Kim Parkins of Union, SC, Daphne (Travis) Hooper of Barnwell, SC, and Michelle (Joe) Handberry of Barnwell, SC; grandchildren Jonathan Parkins of Union, SC, Felicia Parkins of Union, SC, Shelby (Jerred) Burdette of Charleston, SC, Mattison (Clay) Hooper of Barnwell, SC, Taylor (Daniel) Alexander of Barnwell, SC,  Ashton Handberry of Barnwell, SC, and Caden Handberry of Barnwell, SC; great-grandchildren Carleigh Summer, Mary Chilton Alexander, Margaret Alexander, and Eleanor Burdette; brothers Johnny (Sandra) Sloan of Woodruff, SC, and Ricky (Toni) Sloan of Woodruff, SC; sister Rita (Ed) Mobley of Woodruff, SC; sister-in-law, Amy Sloan of Woodruff, SC; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Erskine Sloan and Gerald Sloan, as well as his sister, Patsy Wood.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 31st, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Mole Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC with Dr. Bart Kelley officiating.

A visitation for family and friends will also be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lanford-Gwinn Mortuary, 257 North Main Street, Woodruff.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105 or to a charity of one's choice.
