Kenneth “Buck” King Sr.
WOODRUFF- Kenneth Kirby “Buck” King Sr, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday evening, March 26, 2021.
Born January 18, 1934 in Woodruff to the late Lawrene H. and Willie Lusk King and was the widower of Joyce Burke King who went home to be with the Lord, December 1, 2020 to whom he was married 68 years. “Buck” was a 1952 graduate of Woodruff High School and is a member of the Woodruff Wolverine Football Hall of Fame. He received a football scholarship to Furman University where he played football and graduated. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a former longtime member of Three Pines Country Club and was retired from W.R. Grace Cryovac where he served several management rolls and served in U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon King Lynch (Tim) of Hephzibah, Georgia and Joy Lynn King of Larkspur, California; one son, Kenneth King Jr. (Debra) of Simpsonville; one sister, Shirley King Stone (Frank) of Woodruff; one brother, Johnny King (Doris, Deceased) of Woodruff; his 3 loving granddaughters, Khristen King Cox and Kerry King Cownie both of Simpsonville and Alexandria Lynch of Hephzibah, Georgia; his loving grandson, Kirby Madden of Larkspur, California; 5 great-grandchildren, Avery Cox, Hollis Cox, Anna Grace Cownie, Caroline Cownie and Rivers Cownie all of Simpsonville. Mr. King was predeceased by a son, Kevin Keith King.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Lanford-Gwinn Mortuary Chapel by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Interment will follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 464 Woodruff Street, Woodruff, S.C. 29388.
The family is at their respective homes.
Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic it is requested that face masks and social distancing be practiced during the visitation and funeral service.
