Martha Dunaway Clark, 80, passed away Friday August 4, 2023 at Pacifica Senior Living.
Martha was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina on September 14, 1942. Martha lived in Moore, South Carolina for the past 17 years.
Martha was the daughter of Clifford and Lois Crocker Dunaway (deceased). Sister Rosemary Dunaway Leake (Lewis Jr). Brother Tommy Dunaway (deceased). Nieces: Amy Charlet Peahuff (Brian) and Degi Dunaway Machin (Paul). Great Nieces: Autumn Marie Cook, Hanna Grace Smith, Haley Nicole Smith and Destiny Condra-Bogan. Great Nephew: Jacob Condra-Bogen (Aerial). And Martha's sweetheart Bob Eaton.
Martha graduated from Cowpens High School in 1960. She graduated from Winthrop University in 1964 with a degree in Elementary Education. She received her Masters of Education in 1977 from Georgia State University. Martha taught school in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Specifically, North Roswell Elementary School, Roswell, Georgia. Martha retired from teaching after 38 years.
Martha moved back to the upstate after her retirement. Her retirement didn't last long. She taught education courses and observed student teachers for 10 years at USC Upstate.
Martha was an active member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Spartanburg, was also a
member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Altrusa International of Spartanburg, SC., Phi Beta Kappa (Honors Society).
Martha will be truly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307 with Reverend Beth Hendrix, Vicor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
