Mertice A. Whitmore

WOODRUFF- Mertice Ellen Arnold Whitmore, 82, formerly of 225 Arnold Road went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Woodruff Manor.

  She was born July 29, 1937 in Simpsonville, S.C. to the late Lawrence and Jessie Boyter Arnold and she was the widow of Johnny Allen Whitmore who passed away July 11, 2015.  She was educated in Woodruff Schools and was a retired textile employee with Inman Mills.  Mrs. Whitmore was a faithful member for many years at the Woodruff Church of God.

  Surviving are four sisters, Linda Murphy, Mary Durham, Judy Crowe and Sarah Nelson all of Woodruff; one brother, Melvin Arnold of Woodruff.  She was predeceased by a brother, Horace “Bub” Arnold and two sisters, Ruby Lawson and Kay Brandenburgh.  She is also survived by her great- nephew and caregiver, Jonathan (Jessica) Murphy of Simpsonville.

  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodruff Church of God by the Rev. James Shealy and Rev. Curtis Terry.  Interment will follow in Green Pond Memorial Cemetery with a committal service by Rev. Buster Ball and Rev. Jonathan Knight.

  Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 101 East Wood Street, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.

  The family is at their respective homes.
