Peggy S. Chesney
WOODRUFF- Peggy Sherbert Chesney, 84, of 679 Parsons Road went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 29, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born July 13, 1938, in Spartanburg County and was predeceased by her mother, Jerome Sherbert Fortner and her stepfather, Lawrence Fortner. Peggy was a faithful member of the Woodruff Church of God where she was a former member of the sanctuary choir. She was a member of the Joy Club, served as Family Training Hour President for 14 years, was a Sunday School Teacher for over 51 years, served the Nursing Home Ministry for 15 years and traveled & ministered in Southern Gospel music for over 40 years. Peggy retired from the medical field after 25 years of working at the former B.J. Workman Memorial Hospital, Dr. Gajanan Shanbhag and Dr. David Stone.
Surviving is her husband of 66 years, Harold Chesney of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim Chesney Roberson (Rickey) of Woodruff; one brother, Tommy Tucker (Charlotte) of Hogansville, Georgia; two grandchildren, Christina Roberson and Christopher Roberson. She is also survived by a niece, Tammy Vaughn and two nephews, Tim Tucker and Tom Tucker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at the Woodruff Church of God by Rev. Jonathan Knight, Rev. James Shealy and Rev. Dennis Stone. Interment will follow at Green Pond Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Woodruff Church of God, 6385 Hwy. 101, Woodruff, S.C.
Serving as pallbearers, Tim Tucker, Tom Tucker, Mike Vaughn, Troy Vaughn, Jerry Patterson, Brian Hellams, Ricky Grubbs and Wil Owens.
Honorary Escort will be the Sherbert Cousins, the Legacy Sunday School Class and the Woodruff Church of God Joy Club.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Woodruff Church of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 275, Woodruff, S.C. 29388 or the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.
The family would like to give a special thank you to their church families and Spartanburg Regional Hospice for their love and support.
