WOODRUFF- Phyllis Craig Leonhardt, 77, of 1328 West Georgia Road, wife of Ronnie Leonhardt of 57 years went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born August 12, 1943 to the late Eric and Guy Eula Green Craig. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Phyllis started Newberry College with a husband and three small children and finished in 1977 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. She was a stay at home mom and after raising her children to adulthood she started teaching 11th and 12th grade English at Emerald High School in Greenwood. She retired after 10 years of service. Mrs. Leonhardt was a pianist, organist, and vocalist in various churches for over 60 years.

Phyllis was a devout Christian lady who studied her Bible every night. Anyone that ever met this lady found out very quickly that she was a very nice, sweet, caring lady.

She is survived by two sons, Craig (Sharon) of Tega Kay, Cord (Kayle) of Bentonville, Arkansas; one daughter, Statia Bennett of Union; brother, Ronald Craig of Sullivan’s Island. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Milton Craig.

The family would like to thank Kaci, Courtney, Gina, Judy, Cheryl and my daughter-in-law in taking care of Phyllis. These Hospice nurses are absolutely wonderful, we would also like to thank our neighbors, Jerry and Juanita Patterson for preparing meals for us during the months of Phyllis’s illness. We would also like to thank Bryan Sandiford, these friends have been with us all the way. We appreciate the phone calls, visits, and prayers more than anyone of you will know. Phyllis got to tell her close friends that she loved them and told each one goodbye.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 2:15 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Woodruff by Rev. Danny Garrett.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Lanford-Gwinn Mortuary.

Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic it is requested that masks and social distancing be practiced during the visitation and service.

The family is at the residence, 1328 West Georgia Road, Woodruff.
