Stanley Gwinn

ENOREE- Robert Stanley Gwinn, 78, of 480 Rocky Ridge Road went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Spartanburg Medical Center.

  He was born March 14, 1946, in Spartanburg County to the late Robert Smith Gwinn and Annie Belle Stroud Gwinn.  He was member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, R.A. Leader and enjoyed the Senior Outings.   He was a retired carpenter and enjoyed baseball, softball, blue grass music, the outdoors, old westerns and woodworking.  Stanley was a 1964 graduate of Woodruff High School where he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame May 10, 1986. He had an opportunity to play professional baseball and was scouted by The Chicago Cubs but instead chose to stay home and marry the love of his life and raise his family.

  Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Evelyn Crowe Gwinn of the home; his children, Joey (Gerrye) Stroud of Woodruff; Sharon (Eddie) Holmes of Enoree, Ann Stroud of Pacolet and Robbie Gwinn of Woodruff; 7 grandchildren, Amanda Johnson (Bruce), Ashley Godfrey (Jonathan), Brandon Stroud (Samantha), Jessica Stroud, Edward Holmes, Tyler (Becca) Holmes and Emily Gwinn; 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Terry Wayne Stroud.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Fred Quidley, Rev. Greg Black, and Rev. Jonathan Knight officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Family members are at the residence.
