Terry Wayne Hammett
Terry Wayne Hammett (60), a native of Woodruff, SC, and Spartanburg County, passed away unexpectedly Saturday at his home in Boiling Springs, SC from complications following surgery and entered eternal rest with our Savior Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by his family at the time of the tragedy. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 36 years, Cheryl Butler Hammett formerly of Greenwood, SC; two children that adored him, Charles Ryan Hammett (Rachel) of Spartanburg and Rachel Hammett Vizcaya (David) and a grandson Elias James Vizcaya (4 mos.) of Lyman, SC and a brother Charles Anthony Hammett of Laurens, SC. He was preceded in death by his father Bobby Charles Hammett, mother Clemis Edwards Hammett and sister Donna Hammett Tooker.
A 1981 graduate of Woodruff High School, he went on to earn a Computer Science degree from Clemson University in the Spring of 1985. He passed on a job offer from the prestigious National Security Agency to remain in his home state and settle to start a family. His work career included being a systems analyst for Navelex in Charleston, SC as a civilian employee of the US Navy, working in the same capacity for Lockwood Greene Architectural and Engineering Firm in Spartanburg, SC and was a long-time employee of Barry-Wehmiller Design Group in Duncan, SC serving as a Sr. Project Manager at the time of his passing.
Terry’s all-consuming passion was his love for his family. He loved them unconditionally and was a fierce defender of them. He played a role in the lives of nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of the family before being blessed with two wonderful children and then went on to dote on them with unmatched pride. He was a lover of all sports at Clemson as well as a dedicated Atlanta Braves fan. He also enjoyed motorsports of all kinds and was an accomplished athlete himself in younger years. His absolute pride and joy were his first grandchild born in April of this year, and sadly he will not see the second to arrive in January of next year. The family is trusting and believing in a happy reunion in Heaven some day with all present, including a rainbow baby he never got to meet.
