Barry Wayne Bishop, 76, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved and devoted his life to.
Born on April 28, 1949, he was the son of the late Roy and Mary Bishop. A man of quiet strength, firm values, and steadfast loyalty, he lived his life with a deep commitment to service, family, and faith.
He graduated from Dorman High School in 1968 and joined the United States Air Force the following year. His service was a point of lifelong pride, and though he was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran in 1972, his dedication to his country remained a core part of who he was.
Later, he continued to pursue education and personal growth, earning a degree from Limestone College in 1982 and later from Fruitland Bible College in 1997.
He married the love of his life, Myrna Sherbert, on December 9, 1972. Together they built a life grounded in hard work and dedication, eventually settling in North Carolina in 1994. He worked faithfully in a variety of roles over the years including at the Fair Forest Finishing Company, Pepsi Cola, Coca-Cola, and Bunny Bread — always with the goal of providing for his family and never asking for recognition.
He retired in 2002, but his most cherished roles began long before that: as a husband, father, and later, as a grandfather (“Pop”). He welcomed his daughter, Kady, into the world in 1988, and with her came one of his proudest identities - dad. When his grandson Beckett was born, a new light entered his life. Beckett was his greatest joy, and he took every opportunity to brag on him, play with him, and simply be present.
He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He showed his love not through grand gestures, but through consistency, dependability, and a fierce commitment to the people who mattered most.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Bishop; his brothers, Larry, Harold, and Donnie Bishop; and his grandparents, Hezzie and Tennie Bishop.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Myrna Bishop; his devoted daughter, Kady Bishop and spouse (Ashley Bishop); and his adored grandson, Beckett Bishop, who was truly the light of his life.
He will be remembered with deep love and gratitude for the quiet strength he carried, the values he lived by, and the unwavering love he gave to his family.
