Bill Black
WOODRUFF- William Ray “Bill” Black Sr., 87, of 510 Briarcliff Drive went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Pelham Medical Center.
He was born October 2, 1933 in Saluda, S.C. to the late Herman Leo and Mary Alice Trotter Black.
He was a member of Emma Gray Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Bethel Masonic Lodge and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Black was former Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Woodruff and had also served on the Woodruff City Council. He had also served District Four Schools as a member of the Woodruff High School Chain Crew for over 30 years and also was a volunteer fireman for Woodruff Fire Department for many years. Mr. Black retired from GTE (General Telephone) as a cable splicer.
Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Gay Alexander Black of the home; two daughters, Joan Wilkie (Lanny) of West Union and Marie Davis (Tony) of Woodruff; one son, William Black Jr. (Kyong) of Woodruff; one brother, Bobby Black of Waterloo; daughter-in-law, Kim Black of Woodruff; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Rev. Alex Black.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Graceland East Memorial Park, 2206 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, by Rev. Andy Watson.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Casey Wilkie, Tyler Wilkie, Forrest Black, Ethan Black, Collin Black, Bradley Davis and Connor Davis.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Emma Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, 321 West Georgia Street, Woodruff, S.C. 29388.
The family is at the residence.
Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic it is requested that face masks and social distancing be practiced at the service.
